Biography
Seyoung Oh who is originally from Seoul, South Korea, and she moved to Glasgow in 2017 when she started her study through BMus Music programme in University of Glasgow. During her study, she opened her eyes to the historical context of music theory. As a singer herself, she actively engaged in choral singing through singing in University of Glasgow Chapel Choir and Glasgow Madrigirls and this enthusiasm in choral music still continues today. With her experience playing in an alternative rock band in Seoul, she became familiar with using technology in her creative practice. This background led her to embark on the applied dissertation project ‘Life in a Pendulum Motion (2022)’ in which she explored timbral continuum between the tape part and acoustic cello sound and the piece was premiered in 2022 GLEAM Festival in Glasgow. Her other strong passion is instrumental music, especially writing for large ensembles.
After finishing her UG study, graduated with first class degree, she is continuing her compositional journey through Master’s study at RCS, under the tutelage of Stuart MacRae. Her current aim of her compositional journey is to consolidate her own musical style and develop a compositional technique which enables instrumental sound to exhibit the effect of the electronic sound.
